Verdict
APPLAUSE appeals as the right type to go close in this race with Shamwari Lodge and Balaagha others to the fore of our thoughts. The last nine winners have been three year-olds so we can dispense with the older horses although Alsace Lorraine hasn't got too many miles on the clock and could figure. She, however, will either need the leaders to go off too fast or to enjoy plenty of luck in running as she's often been held up and her draw may ensure that those tactics are employed. It won't be an easy tactical race for those with low draws so we'd rather side with the middle to high numbers whilst only Eva's Request, of the last ten winners, has successfully carried more than nine stone. Shamwari Lodge is on the wrong side of that line but she's progressing well, comes into the race on the back of a good second to Fantasia and is well drawn. Balaagha has plenty of ability but she's a tricky ride and has missed the kick on every career start which could give Richard Hills a headache. She has run well at this track though which counts in her favour. Applause has a similar rating to the majority of recent winners following a 10lb rise having made a winning handicap debut at Redcar. The form of her debut run behind Moonlife and Say No Now has worked out well whilst, on her latest start, she comfortably accounted for a decent yardstick in Wannabe King who went on to win his next three starts. She's amongst the leading fancies for the Cambridgeshire as a result and Applause can cement her place in the line-up by winning here.
