Verdict

This is not the ideal getting-out stakes as plenty have decent claims. Storm Nelson was unbeaten last season but probably needs a stiffer test of stamina and lacks a recent run. Aurora Thunder is also better over a bit further but Pounding Poet and Winningseverything, second and fourth behind Mackelduff over track and trip in October, go on the shortlist and Midnight River is quickly back over hurdles after falling in a chase at Carlisle. Carys' Commodity is another reverting to the smaller obstacles after falling over fences but STRAW FAN JACK (NAP) makes more appeal. An easy winner at this meeting 12 months ago, he has run well in a couple of starts at Cheltenham this season and looks to be on a fair mark at present. Tamar Bridge won easily in a novice event at Wetherby on his reappearance but this is a lot more competitive.
