Yeats remains on course for the Goodwood Cup on Thursday after heading a list of 11 acceptors for the Group Two feature. The legendary stayer completed an Ascot Gold Cup hat-trick last month and will bid for a second win at Goodwood following victory in 2006. Yeats must defy a 5lb Group One penalty as well as take on talented opposition, including stablemate Honolulu. The four-year-old was also a Royal Ascot winner, landing the Queen Alexandra Stakes from the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Distinction. The latter is another of three past winners of this race in the line-up, the other being another Stoute's Allegretto - the stable companions being triumphant in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Godolphin are represented by Gold Cup disappointment Sagara and Regal Flush, while Rod Millman's popular veteran Sergeant Cecil who is reported in good form by the trainer. "He's very well but there are some good horses declared," he said. "It's a really good race and we would have liked it to be a poor renewal. "He didn't go to Ascot and then he pulled a muscle so he missed his next intended engagement, a Listed race at Sandown, but he's fine now. "His main targets will be York for the Lonsdale and the Cadran in France." The line-up is completed by Old Newton Cup winner Mad Rush, Chester Cup scorer Bulwark, Peppertree Lane, who only runs if ground is suitable, and Tungsten Strike.
