Herculean effort from unlucky Fairy

Possibly the unluckiest horse in Saturday's Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot was the Ed Dunlop-trained Snow Fairy. Running just a fortnight after finishing third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the brilliant filly was stuck for room before staying on late in the day to occupy the same position. "Snow Fairy has still to win a race this year, but she has been in the frame in all her five races and this £140,000 takes her earnings past the £2.8million mark," the Newmarket trainer told his website, www.edunlop.com. "She did not enjoy the rub of the green as she was boxed in and Olivier Peslier had to wait for Christophe Soumillon to make his move on Cirrus Des Aigles until he could find an escape route.

Hand Over Fist

"Our filly was gaining on the first two hand over fist at the end and just ran out of ground. "Considering it was only 13 days since she ran in the Arc it was another Herculean effort. "Obviously, we will see how she comes out of the race, but the plan has always been to try and defend her crown in the QEII Cup in Japan on November 13. "All being well, that is where she will be heading, though it will be tough as Dancing Rain is also scheduled to go there and she is a very smart three-year-old, as we saw earlier in the day at Ascot."
