Rich Ricci's Vroum Vroum Mag eyes Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury

Owner Rich Ricci is praying for rain to allow exciting mare Vroum Vroum Mag to make her seasonal reappearance early next month ahead of a possible tilt at the Hennessy Gold Cup.

The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old was the leading owner's biggest money-earner in Ireland last season, winning each of her five starts over fences with consummate ease.

Ricci sees the mare as an ideal candidate for Newbury's prestigious handicap on November 28, but is keen to get her out beforehand.

"I love Vroum Vroum Mag. I think she is brilliant," Ricci told At The Races.

"What we'd like to do is go for the Hennessy, but after running Djakadam in the race first time out last year, the lesson we learned is you need a run (beforehand).

"There's a second-season novice chase on November 1 at Naas. If we can get her a run there, that would probably put her in perfect shape for the Hennessy.

"The problem is we've had no rain and we need that for her to run, but I think she could be very competitive off 153 in the Hennessy.

"If she can't run there (Newbury), we'll probably start her off in a mares' chase. There's one at Carlisle and there's a couple in Ireland.

"She could be a Gold Cup horse and she could be a Ryanair horse, which is probably be more likely.

"Maybe she could even run in the Grand National."
