Tiffert own goal seals 1-0 victory over Kaiserslautern
St Pauli ended a six-match winless run thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 success against Kaiserslautern.
St Pauli had collected just one point in their last half-dozen games to slip perilously close to the Bundesliga relegation zone.
Kaiserslautern, by contrast, had claimed back-to-back victories over Nurnberg and Schalke leading in to their trip to the Millerntor Stadion.
The sides could not be separated in a goalless first half but St Pauli managed to break the deadlock just three minutes after the interval.
They needed a slice of fortune, though, as Kaiserslautern midfielder Christian Tiffert inadvertently put the ball into his own net.
The visitors were unable to find an equaliser in the remaining 42 minutes as St Pauli held firm to secure victory.
The result lifts St Pauli level on points with Kaiserslautern, who remain 12th due to a superior goal difference.
