Wolfsburg leapt above Schalke into fifth place in the Bundesliga on Sunday night with a 3-0 win at Freiburg which leaves Christian Streich's men inside the bottom three. Two goals in three early first-half minutes from Maximilian Arnold and Ivica Olic effectively ended the home team's hopes as they were caught out cold, Marcel Schafer sealing the victory in the last minute. As a result, the Wolves climb two points above Schalke and to within five of Borussia Monchengladbach while Freiburg turn their attention to an all-or-nothing Europa League clash with Sevilla on Thursday. Freiburg could hardly have imagined a worst start to the game as they found themselves down within 11 minutes. Patrick Ochs sent in a low cross from the right which was met by Arnold, who did not have too much difficulty tucking the ball in for his fifth goal of the season. Before Freiburg could regroup, they were even further behind. Luiz Gustavo capitalised on a mistake by Fallou Diagne and he sent the ball through to Olic, who made it two with ease, taking advantage once again of some poor Freiburg defensive organisation. Slobodan Medojevic should have made it three for the Wolves before half-time as they threatened to run riot at the Dreisamstadion. Freiburg responded well in the second half, but two misses summed up their day. Matthias Ginter sent a cross from Sebastian Kerk over the crossbar from less than five yards out after being left alone at the far post, and then Kerk showed nerves and inexperience to shoot wide of the post with only Diego Benaglio to beat. To make matters worse for Freiburg, Willi Evseev cut in unmarked form the right and fed fellow substitute Schafer to make it three in stoppage time.
