Burnley made to pay for slow start against Arsenal, says Sean Dyche

Burnley boss Sean Dyche was left regretting a "horrible goal" which condemned his side to defeat against Arsenal.

The Clarets lost 1-0 to in-form Arsenal on Saturday Night Football, with Aaron Ramsey smashing in the only goal of the game after the hosts had denied Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in quick succession.

Dyche was critical of his team’s play ahead of that opener and lamented Burnley’s inability to come up with a moment of magic to cancel it out.

"It was an awful goal, an awful goal from start to finish," Dyche said.

"In the first half we didn't adapt, we almost gave them a feel of the game by not making good decisions, including the decision that led to the goal.

"It was a horrible goal really. But beyond that, the first half levelled out and I don't think they had many chances. We just couldn't find that moment of real quality to win the match or get something from it."

Burnley remain two points from safety following that defeat but their run-in doesn’t feature any of the current top-eight - and Dyche is hopeful his side can take points off teams around them to boost their survival hopes.   

"We feel we have quality," he said. "We've got different challenges coming but they won't be like the ones we've had recently.

"We've got good belief in our performances. We still need to add quality to our performance, but there's certainly a will and a demand to go and get more points this season."
