Premier League: Burnley's Ben Mee targets victory over West Brom

Defender Ben Mee wants Burnley to avenge the heavy defeat they suffered at The Hawthorns when West Brom visit Turf Moor on Sunday.

Burnley have acquitted themselves well in their first season back in the Premier League but were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline against West Brom last September.

"We were disappointed with that,” Mee said.

“It wasn't like us to go there and not give a good account of ourselves. It would be nice to get one over on them and it will definitely be a motivation for us to do that.

"These games are very important, especially being at home in front of our own crowd. It's going to be a big game for us and we're going to be up for it and hopefully we can get the win and beat one of the teams around us."

Burnley head into the game after defeats against Crystal Palace and Sunderland but manager Sean Dyche hopes his side can show how much they have progressed since their visit to the Hawthorns.

"I think it was a massive learning curve for us,” Dyche said.

"On the day we had four players who had been very important over a long time for this club missing, which is not an excuse but it is a reality.

"That was the first time we were acutely aware that if you're not right on top of your performance level as an individual and as a team, you can get hurt at this level.

"I think we've moved on a long way since then. We've had a couple of knocks recently. We've delivered reasonable performances in them but we didn't get the points.

"We have to make sure we continue to win games. There are some really tough games coming, we know that. We've been through it recently over the Christmas period and we got some very good points on the board. We'll have be clear-minded to do that again."

Danny Ings, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is likely to prove vital for Burnley’s hopes of staying up after a string of impressive performances for the club this term.

Ings looks set to leave the club in the summer, but Mee insists retaining the striker’s services following the January transfer window was a coup for Burnley.

He said: "You want to keep your best players and obviously Ingsy has been on form recently and hopefully he can continue that.

"It's great to keep hold of him. You need a goalscorer in your team and he brings that for us, and obviously his work-rate and everything.

"I spoke to him and he said he wanted to stay so there wasn't any inclination that he was going to leave. The kind of lad he is he'll want to help the team and do well for everyone."
