Cumbers' miss proves costly for Gillingham

League Two side MK Dons are through to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern final after they defeated Gillingham on penalties. With Jemal Johnson cancelling out Craig Stone's 84th minute strike, the match went to penalties and Luis Cumbers' miss prove costly as Drissa Diallo slotted home to set up a final against Swansea City. Gillingham were first to create a decent opening, with Gary Mulligan bursting through; however he only managed to loop his effort over the bar. MK Dons pushed on though, and Simon Royce made a sound save after Drewe Broughton had struck goalwards. The home side broke the deadlock with just six minutes remaining as Stone stabbed home through a cluster of players. But MK Dons hit back immediately when Johnson's scuffed shot found its way past goalkeeper Simon Royce. Neither side managed to snatch a late winner and the match went to penalties. The Priestfield stadium watched on nervously with both sides tied at 4-4, before Cumbers struck the post to hand the impetus to Diallo - who duly obliged.
