Two goals in five minutes helped Morecambe thump Dagenham 3-0 and make a dream start to the new League Two campaign.
Goals from Kevin Ellison, Padraig Amond and Jack Redshaw saw Jim Bentley's side pick up the three points in a game that came to life in the second period. Morecambe's opener came four minutes into the second half through veteran Ellison. The visitors were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Dagenham area and Ellison took full advantage with a low shot that beat Liam O'Brien to his right. The Shrimps added a second four minutes later from the penalty spot. Jack Sampson was crudely bundled over by Scott Doe in the box and Amond made no mistake from the spot. The visitors completed the day in style when Redshaw tapped in Jamie Devitt's cross four minutes into injury time. The scoreline could have been even greater had it not been for Dagenham goalkeeper O'Brien who produced a string of fine saves as Morecambe threatened to run riot. Dagenham looked the more threatening side in the first half but failed to test Barry Roche in the Morecambe goal until late in the game when debutant Jamie Cureton saw an effort tipped over.
