Friday 14 August 2015 14:10, UK
He’s the uncapped all-rounder called into Australia's limited overs squad for the tour of England and Ireland just days before his 26th birthday.
But who is Marcus Peter Stoinis? Here’s the lowdown:
Twitter: @MStoinis
Age: 25 (birthday August 16 1989)
Teams: Victoria, Melbourne Stars, Delhi Daredevils
First-class batting record: 1,372 runs at 39.20
Highest: 170 - one hundred and 12 fifties
First-class bowling record: 14 wickets at 54.21
Best figures: 3-27
CAREER SO FAR…
He made his first-class debut for Western Australia in 2009 but after failing to make an impact there he moved to Victoria where he has remained ever since.
Stoinis stood out in last season’s Sheffield Shield with the bat, winding up as Victoria's top-scorer with 785 runs in 10 matches - the seventh highest in the competition. However, he collected only seven wickets with the ball at an average of 40-plus - including 3-27 against South Australia at Adelaide.
In July he was picked to represent Australia A against India A in Chennai, scoring 77 and taking 2-17 in the first encounter.
IPL BOUND…
Off the back of his Big Bash performances for Melbourne Stars, Stoinis got the chance to hook up with Yuvraj Singh after being picked up by Delhi Daredevils in the IPL - but has yet to make an appearance for them.
SIX OF THE BEST...
While playing for the National Performance Squad in a 50-over match against a National Indigenous Squad XI at Allan Border Field, Stoinis took rather a fancy to the bowling of seamer Brendan Smith - despatching him for six sixes in an over on his way to 121 from 73 balls. The over actually began with a wide, meaning it cost 37 runs in total! Check out the video of his perfect over...
CHARITY STAND...
His most recent opening partner was the one and only Sanath Jayasuriya - the pair getting the World XI’s innings underway against Nepal in a charity match in Kuala Lumpur to raise funds for victims of this year’s Nepalese earthquakes. Stoinis cracked eight fours and a six as he blasted 48 off 29 balls and was duly named man-of-the-match after no other player made more than Jayasuriya’s 23.
