Mitchell Starc joined Australia's training session at Lord's on Tuesday morning without any apparent discomfort.

The left-armer was the Aussies' leading wicket-taker in the the first Investec Ashes Test defeat in Cardiff but bowled through the pain of an ankle injury during England's second innings.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann said on Monday he could delay a call on Starc's fitness until the morning of the second Test on Thursday, with Peter Siddle and Pat Cummins standing by to deputise.

But there were encouraging signs as Starc took part in a warm-up with his fellow tourists before bowling several deliveries in the middle without any obvious sign of the injury.

Siddle later attended Australia's press conference and gave an upbeat bulletin on the fitness of Starc.

He said: "Starcy got through today, bowled off a long run at both ends out in the middle and he's feeling good. I guess it's a waiting game for me. Everyone's fit at the moment which is nice."

Haddin did not train on Tuesday, but Siddle said: "He is just taking it easy, that's all you can do. It's a long series, and he spends a long time out in the middle. There's another training session tomorrow, and he'll come out then."
