Abandoned match frustrates England batsman

England international Eoin Morgan has expressed his disappointment that the first one-day international against South Africa was curtailed by the weather. The first match was due to take place in Cardiff on Friday, but heavy rain meant just 5.3 overs were bowled before the match was abandoned. England were keen to exact revenge on South Africa following a 2-0 defeat in the Test series and Morgan was frustrated the first of the five-match series failed to deliver a result. "This year so far the weather has been very frustrating," he told Sky Sports. "As a unit we're pretty happy with where we are. "We want to kick this one-day series off. It was very disappointing in Cardiff."

Challenge

A blistering run of form has seen England rise to number one in the rankings, although Morgan is not treating South Africa lightly. "It's a huge challenge," he added on the series. "South Africa are a very formidable side and a very successful side over a period of about five or six years. "Where we're at the moment is we've got a very focused side. We know our game plan pretty well. Everyone knows their role. "The run over the last two years or so has been fantastic and it's seen us rise up the rankings, which has been great. "Being world number one at the moment is a bit of a surprise and it has come quickly. Again what we're aspiring to do in this series is win it and the rankings will look after themselves."
