Alex Hales has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for 'inappropriate comments' he made to the third umpire during England's fourth Test against Pakistan.

The England opener was adjudged to have been caught low at midwicket, but remained unmoved, convinced the ball had bounced.

With the final call left to the third umpire, a conclusive decision could not be reached through replays and Hales was forced to depart.

There was controversy on the first day of the fourth Test as Alex Hales was given out after a low catch from Yasir Shah, but was it out?

The ICC said in a statement on Friday that Hales visited third umpire Joel Wilson's room following the incident and has been ruled to have breached the ICC code of conduct.

Hales "made some inappropriate comments" while he was leaving the room during the first day's play on Thursday, the ICC said.

The 27-year-old batsman has admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson.

Speaking about the incident on The Verdict, Sky Sports expert Bob Willis said: "It was very immature from Hales, a pretty dismal performance.

"You can't go barging in to the see the third umpire and suggest you haven't had the rub of the green.

"I believe you have to be a very, very good payer or be scoring a hundred every third innings to get involved in things like that."
