Glen Chapple has been confirmed as acting head coach at Lancashire following Ashley Giles' move to Warwickshire.

Mark Chilton has been promoted to acting assistant coach as the Old Trafford club move swiftly to replace Giles, who has moved to be nearer to his family.

Commenting on the double appointment, Lancashire director Paul Allott said: "We are delighted to promote two exceptional coaches to the vacant interim positions.

"Glen and Mark are former captains who know our club and the cricket world well, they have great skills and are proud Lancastrians.

"The board will give them our total support during the coming months."

In their statement confirming the move, Lancashire said they "will make further announcements as the planning for the new season and future coaching structure are confirmed".

Chapple was previously the club's bowling and first-team coach and made his debut for Lancashire as a player in 1992.
