John Hastings will return to Durham as their overseas player for the 2015 County Championship campaign.
The Australia all-rounder will return to the Emirates ICG after completing the domestic season at home with Victoria.
Hastings enjoyed a successful first year in county cricket, helping Durham to reach a Lord's final and stave off the threat of relegation from LV=County Championship Division One.
He also smashed Durham's fastest ever half-century when he reached 50 from just 19 balls against Northamptonshire Steelbacks in July, ending the season with five 50s and 65 wickets in 26 matches in all competitions.
Hastings is currently competing in the Champions League T20 competition in India with Chennai Super Kings.
He said: "I could not be happier to have signed at a place that has given me a great amount joy over the course of the last five months.
"I can't wait to get back to Durham and lend a hand in pushing for silverware next season. I feel I have a very close bond with the lads now and can't wait to get next season under way.
"Hopefully I can put some performances on the board again and we can start the year well. All in all I am absolutely delighted and thankful to be coming back"
Captain Paul Collingwood is delighted the 28-year-old will be back at Chester-le-Street next season.
He added: He's been a rock for us in terms of the effort and skill levels that he's brought to the team this year.
"Along with having a very important role in the team, he's a top bloke too and fitted in really well with the squad. His constant enthusiasm and positive attitude will be big assets to us again next year."
