One-Day Cup: Yorkshire reach quarter-finals despite loss to Warwickshire

Yorkshire experienced mixed emotions on Monday as they lost to Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup but still made the quarter-finals.
Having led the North Group for some time, Yorkshire had to be content with third place and an away match in the last eight whereas Warwickshire's well-deserved victory saw them finish second and guaranteed them a home tie.
Chasing Warwickshire's 283-6, the Headingley hosts, who rested Tim Bresnan, lost an over because of two short stoppages for rain and saw their target reduced by a run but they never got anywhere near and were bowled out for 167 in 37.4 overs.
When their ninth wicket went down at 148, they could still have managed a home tie if they had made it to 189 but they were still 22 short when Steven Patterson was dismissed.
The visitors were indebted to three outstanding individual performances. Man-of-the-match Jonathan Trott scored a fine 118 and spinners Ateeq Javid and Jeetan Patel then claimed seven wickets between them - Javid leading the way with a career-best four for 42.
Durham were knocked out of the competition as rain allowed only seven overs to be bowled in their match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford, while Warwickshire's win at Yorkshire also went against them.
After waiting until 6.15pm for play in a 24-over match to begin, the patient crowd saw Lancashire progress to 39-0 before the bad weather returned.
The game was eventually abandoned as a no result with each county receiving one point and leaving the visitors' hopes of qualifying for the last eight hanging in the balance.
Lancashire had already been eliminated when they lost on Sunday but Durham were left to await other results before finding out whether they would qualify for the last eight. Warwickshire's victory at Headingley meant Paul Collingwood's side were eliminated.
Half-centuries from Tom Fell and Daryl Mitchell helped Worcestershire Rapids to a place in the knock-out stages after victory over Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge.
Set a target of 285, Worcestershire had reached 138-1 after 24 overs when the umpires decided that conditions had become unplayable, sealing a Rapids victory by 35 runs on the Duckworth Lewis method.
Notts had posted 284-8 from their 50 overs, Samit Patel top-scoring with 55 while Dan Christian made 54 and Riki Wessels 50. Ed Barnard was the pick of the Rapids' attack with figures of 3-45.
Derbyshire and Leicestershire's slim hopes of making the last eight were ended by rain at the 3aaa County Ground.
Both teams needed to win and hope results elsewhere in the North Group went in their favour but after the Falcons made 260-6 in 50 overs, the Foxes faced just two balls before the rain arrived in Derby.
Neil Broom top scored with 90 from 86 balls, his best List A score for Derbyshire, and Billy Godleman made 66 to give the home side a competitive total on a slow pitch but the weather prevented the Foxes chasing a revised target of 230 from 38 overs.
Jason Roy blasted an unbeaten 93 off 67 balls before rain frustrated Surrey in their clash with Glamorgan at the Kia Oval.
The England one-day opener hit three sixes and 14 fours as Surrey made 157-1 from 19 overs before rain arrived.
Umpires Graham Lloyd and Neil Mallender tried to restart at 5.45pm in what would have been a 37-overs-a-side contest but the rain returned and the game was abandoned just before 7.30pm.
Both sides take a point each, meaning Surrey still have the chance of qualifying from the South Group if they win their final game against Middlesex at Lord's on Tuesday.
