The Hundred draft set for October and to be shown live on Sky Sports

The Hundred managing director Sanjay Patel says the simplicity of the format of the game can reach a new audience

The squads of eight new cricket teams will be finalised on October 20, when The Hundred's first men's player draft takes place, the ECB have announced.

The draft will be shown live on Sky Sports from 7pm as teams are chosen from a pool of overseas and England stars, plus the best home-grown talent.

The Hundred launches in July 2020 and will offer an exciting new 100-ball format featuring some of the world's best players with the eight teams to be unveiled later this year.

There will also be a women's Hundred competition, launching at the same time as the men's tournament, with further details on that to be announced in due course.

ECB chief executive officer, Tom Harrison said: "The Hundred is an exciting new cricket competition that we hope will grow our wonderful sport even further. Fans can enjoy some of the world's biggest names playing for eight brand new cricket teams across men's and women's competitions.

"I'm sure there will be huge anticipation ahead of the first men's players draft in October, as each of the squads are finalised live on Sky Sports."

The ECB is currently consulting with the PCA and counties on the specifics of the draft with full details to be announced nearer to the time.
