Steven Finn took two wickets for Middlesex against Surrey in a pre-season match.

Middlesex fast bowling coach Richard Johnson says Steven Finn's recovery from injury is going "according to plan".

Finn was ruled out of the England squad for the ongoing World Twenty20 due to a calf problem.

However, the 26-year-old paceman is now back in action after a pre-season tour to South Africa with his county and took 2-35 on day one of a friendly against Surrey at the Oval on Tuesday.

Johnson told Sky Sports: "He is coming on nicely, after he had the injury which ruled him out of the T20.

"We took him to South Africa, he has recovered quickly, and he is running in nicely. It was nice warm weather in Cape Town and it is all going according to plan with him at the moment."

Asked if Finn was upset about missing out on the World Twenty20 campaign, Johnson added: "Finny, as you know, is very level-headed, very committed, very professional.

"He is disappointed he is not in a World Cup. Everyone wants to play in World Cups, they are the biggest stage to show your skills, so he is disappointed not to be in there.

"But he is coming back nicely and, if anything went wrong out there injury-wise, I am sure he is available to fill in if needed."
