Lancashire earned a nail-biting one-run victory over Yorkshire Vikings in the first battle of the Roses this season at Headingley.
Chasing 312, Tom Kohler-Cadmore (97) and Gary Ballance (72) looked in fine touch as they shared an important 127-run fourth-wicket partnership, but when the former was bowled by Saqib Mahmood, the White Rose county began to falter.
Ballance departed three overs later as the Vikings lost 4-55, but wicketkeeper James Tattersall counter-punched with 49 off 29 to swing the pendulum back in the hosts' favour.
Requiring 16 off the final over, Tattersall was run out off the penultimate ball of the innings, and then, with three needed off the last ball, Josh Poysden could only manage a single before he too was run out by Dane Vilas.
Earlier, England seamer David Willey was the pick of the bowlers for Yorkshire, taking 2-51 from his overs - having both Keaton Jennings (8) and Steven Croft (97) caught behind.
Croft was the mainstay of the Red Rose county's innings, sharing an important 120-run fifth-wicket stand with Rob Jones (65), before the latter was caught off Tim Bresnan.
When Croft was eventually caught behind the stumps by Tattersall - three runs short of his half-century - Lancashire looked like they would fail to reach the 300-run mark, but an exhibition of clean striking from Josh Bohannon - who hit six fours and two maximums in his 55 off 32 balls - helped them reach 311-6.
There was a similarly tight finish in Cardiff, as Glamorgan fell to an agonising two-run loss against Somerset. SCORECARD
Final-wicket pair Timm van der Gugten and Lukas Carey shared a 57-run partnership off just 52 balls, but Roelof van der Merwe had the latter caught off the first ball of the 49th over, much to the disappointment of the home crowd.
Seamer Josh Davey had put Somerset in control, having claimed 4-36 from his 10 overs, including trapping both of the hosts' openers Charlie Hemphrey and Craig Meschede lbw for ducks.
However, with the hosts chasing 262 for victory, after James Hildreth's important 67 helped the visitors to 261-9, a free-flowing Carey (39) and Van der Gugten (18no) almost pulled off an incredible comeback.
England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan hit 38 as Middlesex earned a six-wicket win over Gloucestershire at Lord's. SCORECARD
Chasing 284 for victory, Morgan made a brisk start to his innings, smacking six boundaries and sharing an important 67-run fourth-wicket stand with Stevie Eskinazi before the former was caught behind off Chris Liddle.
However, Eskinazi (107 not out) and Nick Gubbins (98 not out) both cut loose, with the former bringing up his century off 92 balls, as they eased to their target with 46 balls remaining.
Earlier, having been inserted, a century partnership between James Bracey (87) and Benny Howell (55) helped the visitors to what proved to be an under par 283-7.
Phil Salt's exquisite unbeaten century saw Sussex Sharks cruise to a seven-wicket win over Kent Spitfires, but World Cup hopeful Chris Jordan endured a challenging day with the ball. SCORECARD
Jordan, who did not make the provisional 15-man squad for the home World Cup but was included in the 17-man team for the one-day internationals against Pakistan and Ireland, conceded seven fours and a six, and he finished with figures of 0-49 from five overs for Sussex.
Australian batsman Matt Renshaw (109) did much of the damage with the bat for Kent as he scored his first century for the Spitfires as they were bowled out for 298 in 49.4 overs - George Garton taking 3-42.
In reply, opener Salt and Harry Finch shared a match-defining 171-run third-wicket partnership, and although the latter was bowled by Matt Milnes for 89, Salt's 137 off 106 balls - which included 19 boundaries - saw the visitors home in just 40 overs.
Windies captain Jason Holder starred with bat and ball ahead of the World Cup as Northants Steelbacks hammered Warwickshire by 194 runs. SCORECARD
The allrounder made an unbeaten 60 off 31 in an innings that included five fours and three sixes, as the Steelbacks smashed 358-6.
Holder (3-26) was then one of three of the hosts' bowlers to claim a three scalps as the visitors capitulated to 164 all out in 34.4 overs, with all-rounder Alex Thomson top-scoring with 36.
Leicestershire Foxes came out on top over Worcestershire Rapids thanks to an all-round effort from Colin Ackermann in a runfest at Grace Road. SCORECARD
Harry Dearden smacked 91 at the top of the order before Ackermann (152no) and wicketkeeper Lewis Hill (118) both hit centuries as they combined to put 200-runs for the fourth-wicket and hammer the Foxes to 377-4.
The Rapids were reduced to 24-4, but Ross Whiteley (131) scored a brilliant hundred as he looked to have got the visitors back on track until Ackermann (3-55) took three late scalps to help bowl out the away side for 339.
Luke Fletcher's five-wicket haul and a dominant display with the bats earned Notts Outlaws a convincing six-wicket win over Derbyshire. SCORECARD
Billy Godleman's century for hosts Derbyshire proved to be in vain, as he hit seven fours and a six in 116 off 148 before being caught behind by Flethcer - with the Outlaws seamer also bowling Leus du Plooy (12), Tom Lace (7), Harvey Hosein (1), and Logan van Beek (0) to finish with figures of 5-56.
In reply, Notts opener Ben Slater (83), wicketkeeper Tom Moores (52no), and captain Steven Mullaney (68no) all hit half-centuries to lead their team to victory in 45.1 overs.
