West Indies captain Jason Holder insists his side have shown they can compete with England

Windies captain Jason Holder says it is time to move on from their memorable second Test win over England at Headingley.

Holder said his team have drawn confidence from their improbable success, but now wants them to capitalise by securing a 2-1 series victory.

Such an outcome did not seem likely when the tourists were thrashed by an innings and 209 runs in the day/night first Test at Edgbaston.

But the Windies were vastly improved at Headingley and chased down 322 on the final day to win by five wickets and set up this week's series decider at Lord's, live on Sky Sports Cricket.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Holder said: "We are obviously confident coming off the last game at Headingley but I have told the guys, 'that is gone'.

"It is important we look forward to this game here at Lord's, continue hitting our targets, and make sure we come out with a win at the end of this game."

Asked how much the second Test win has lifted the camp within the camp, Holder said: "It has done a lot.

"After the first game, pretty much everybody wrote us off. Our heads were a bit down after how we got defeated.

"How we responded at Headingley was remarkable and it has obviously given us some new life. We have got a chance in this series, so we are going out to win it."

There was some criticism of the Windies after their Edgbaston capitulation but Holder does not think it played a huge part in their improved showing two weeks ago.

"Some people it inspires and some people just ignore it," he said. "I can't sit here and say what it has done for the side collectively, but we just focus on our process.

"We want to be a lot more consistent when we bowl and in terms of building an innings as a team, and getting some big partnerships going as a batting unit."
