England vs Sri Lanka, third Test, day four, The Kia Oval

Commentary from Um-E-Aymen Babar at The Kia Oval, with Marc Bazeley and Megan Wellens

That's all for today!

Sri Lanka beat England in Tests for the first time in 10 years as an eight-wicket victory denied the hosts a clean sweep.

The tourists resumed day four on 94-1 under grey skies at The Oval, and Pathum Nissanka (127no) notched his second Test ton in an emphatic and accomplished manner to see Sri Lanka comfortably to their 219 target.

It was fitting that Nissanka hit the winning runs by cutting Shoaib Bashir (0-28) to backward point for four, victory coming after England's 156 all out in their second innings.

It is the highest successful fourth-innings run chase by any team from the subcontinent in a Test in England - and only Sri Lanka's fourth Test victory in this country.

You don't have to wait long for more international cricket though, as we are back on Wednesday for the start of England's ODI series against Australia, live on Sky Sports.

See you then!

Lots of cricket coming your way!

Ponting: England think they have a star in Bashir

Ricky Ponting on Shoaib Bashir...

"They think they have got an out and out star in Bashir.

"There has been all sorts of problems for finger spinners touring Australia.

"Nathan Lyon's record there is outstanding. I am not sure who would have the next best record there.

"Obviously that is going to be his greatest challenge.

"He started in India, great conditions to bowl in.

"The one thing he is going to have to do, when the ball isn't spinning and bouncing all the time is be a lot more consistent with his lines and lengths.

"That is how Nathan Lyon has been as consistent as he has been."

Broad: England will be frustrated

Stuart Broad on a 'frustrating' England performance...

"They will be frustrated to have lost here. It is generally a ground they play well at.

"I think I said at the start of the summer, their target will have been to win the six Test matches while also getting some new players into Test match cricket and see how they settle.

"I think that has certainly be achieved. There has been some brilliant performances from players that have come into Test match cricket and settled really nicely.

"But this performance will frustrate them slightly, especially now there is a bit of a break before they play another Test match.

"Almost when you play like this and don't get it quite right, you want to play the following week and stamp some of those habits out.

"England probably didn't care for their wickets enough and get a big enough lead."

Pope 'proud' of England's Test summer

England captain Ollie Pope:

"I think we got some good learnings from this week, but we're five wins from six Test matches this summer.

"Credit to Sri Lanka with the way they played this week and throughout the summer, they've pushed us throughout.

"Overall, we'll look back on this summer and we're pretty proud of our performance - we got two series wins and won five games of cricket.

"I've loved being captain. Obviously when Stokesy is back fit, he'll be back in, but I've loved it and I'm pleased to get the win."

Pope: England loss not down to complacency

England captain Ollie Pope:

"I don't think it was complacency at all. It's been a long summer, but that's nothing to do with the fact we lost this game.

"We still came to play with the same intentions, but this game, for some reason, it didn't quite come off.

"We didn't get enough runs after having a first-innings lead and I'd probably put it down to that.

"It was just one of those days where it didn't come off. We played some really good cricket throughout the series and then in a couple of weeks' time we'll be able to look back on that day three, reflect on it and make a decision then."

Pope rues day three mistakes from England

England captain Ollie Pope:

"It's disappointing not to be on the right side of the result. Day three, we probably shot ourselves in the foot a little bit.

"We weren't at our best and credit to Sri Lanka. The way Nissanka played was high-class and they deserved to win this Test.

"But we weren't at our best as well."

De Silva: This is one of the happiest moments of my life

Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva...

"For now, there is no emotion in the team room but this is one of the happiest moments in my career and my life.

"We had a tough time in the last two weeks so to come here and get a win in English conditions against an English team it is a very good moment for me, my team, and my country as well.

"With any batting line up, it is hard to bring in a new player.

"Here they are and they are performing well.

"It is a good moment. We will go back home with a win in England so I think we can beat other teams in our home country."

Kamindu hails 'really good win' for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka player of the series Kamindu Mendis:

"It's a really good win in these conditions. Our team did really well, especially the seamers, and Pathum did a great job today.

"In these conditions, you have to face very difficult situations, so I just wanted to enjoy the game in the middle.

"I made some small changes [for playing in English conditions]. It's not a big deal, but you have to.

"If you are confident in your ability and enjoying your game, that is the big thing."
