WWE: Paige suspended for 60 days for second wellness violation

WWE says Brit "tested positive for an illegal substance"

Last Updated: 12/10/16 11:35am

British star Paige has been suspended by WWE for 60 days for her second violation of the company's wellness policy.

The Norwich-born wrestler, who has been suffering from a neck injury, was handed an initial 30-day ban in August and will now be released by WWE if she suffers a third strike.

Paige, real name Saraya-Jade Bevis, insisted she did not fail a drugs test before her first suspension, writing on social media that it was "merely due to a procedural issue."

WWE told the New York Post on Tuesday night that Paige's second ban is due to the fact she "tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug."

The company added: "In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury."

The 24-year-old, a two-time Divas Champion, has not wrestled since the June 27 edition of Monday Night Raw when she teamed with Sasha Banks to face Charlotte and Dana Brooke.

Paige's boyfriend, Alberto Del Rio, was released from the company in September but she announced soon after that she was not thinking of quitting WWE.
