Werder Bremen have signed goalkeeper Koen Casteels on loan from Wolfsburg until the end of the season, less than 24 hours after he joined the Wolves.
The 22-year-old signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Wolfsburg on Wednesday, from Hoffenheim where he had not featured since breaking his shin last April.
Bremen's director of sport Thomas Eichin said: "We have been able to sign a young goalkeeper who has plenty of Bundesliga experience who will give us more depth in his position.”
Eichin insisted that Casteels was signed as competition for Raphael Wolf, not as a replacement.
"Our clear number one Raphael Wolf will have the perfect back-ups in him and Richard Strebinger," added Eichin, who also explained how 18-year-old Raif Husic will now start to train with the reserves.
"Raif is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in Germany in his age group and we have decided that the new situation is more advantageous for his development," Eichin said.
Casteels has made 39 appearances for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
