Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp has signed a new contract.

The 19-year-old academy graduate, who has played 21 times for the Spurs first team, has signed a three-year-deal with option of a fourth.

He has been used intermittently by Jose Mourinho this season, and the manager has tipped him as a future Spurs captain - but he may need to go on loan first.

"In his mind he wants to go on loan, [for] six months, the whole season," Mourinho said.

"He feels that he needs that, I also feel that would be good for his evolution, so maybe that is the direction we go. I think he can be more than a player, he can be a future captain here."

Skipp says the last two years in and around the first team has "flown by" and was delighted to take part in a victory in his first north London derby against Arsenal last week.

"It's been a difficult season this season for everyone but I think that's something that I've learned from and hopefully I can use it pushing forward for the next seasons."

"We are delighted to announce that Oliver Skipp has signed a new contract with the club until 2024," said a Tottenham statement.

Skipp made his debut in the club's 3-1 Carabao Cup win at West Ham in October 2018, and has also represented England at four age levels.
