Former world number one ruled out of this weekend's Fed Cup tie
Justine Henin has been ruled out of playing singles in Belgium's Fed Cup tie against Estonia this weekend due to a finger injury.
The 27-year-old broke the little finger on her left hand in training on Wednesday, but the extent of her injury only became apparent on Friday.
"She was at the net and the ball came over," Belgium captain Sabine Appelmans told
www.fedcup.com.
"She didn't know whether to volley it. Instead, she took it with her hand and broke her finger."
Henin, a right-hander who plays with a single-handed backhand, only uses her left hand for a ball toss, but the pain was enough to sideline her for the opening singles on Saturday.
If she plays at all, she might come back for Sunday's doubles rubber alongside Kirsten Flipkens.
Henin said the injury was painful but would not have stopped her playing in a regular tour event, and should be fit to compete in the WTA tournament in Stuttgart next week.
Yanina Wickmayer, ranked 12th in the world, takes Henin's spot alongside U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters for the singles rubbers.
