Former world number one keeps up successful return

Justine Henin shrugged off some service problems to reach the quarter-finals of the WTA Brisbane International. The Belgian secured a 6-4 6-3 win over Kazakhstan qualifier Sesil Karatantcheva to book her place in the last eight after previously beating second-seeded Nadia Petrova. Henin, playing in her first tournament since she retired back in May 2008, had her serve broken three times by Karatantcheva. However she still managed to seal the win and set up a clash against seventh-seeded Melinda Czink.

Rhythm

"I'm glad to play matches to find rhythm," said the 27-year-old. "That's a very good thing." Henin cannot meet compatriot Kim Clijsters, who won the US Open just three tournaments into her own comeback from retirement, in an all-Belgian final. Clijsters will face Lucie Sarafova in her quarter-final match after the Czech player disposed of sixth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 6-3 6-1. In other second-round action, fourth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia defeated Hungarian Agnes Szavay 6-3 6-1. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia will next face third-seeded Ana Ivanovic after coming from a set down to beat Roberta Vinci of Italy 1-6 6-4 6-1.
