Spaniard coasts to Moroccan crown with facile final victory
Anabel Medina Garrigues claimed her ninth WTA Tour singles title after winning the Fes Grand Prix on the clay in Morocco.
Number one seed Medina Garrigues battered sixth seed Ekaterina Makarova 6-0 6-1 in just an hour in the final to cruise to the title.
The Spaniard entered the Fes tournament at a career-best 18th in the world rankings, and she proved far too good for her Russian opponent in the final.
After struggling in earlier rounds against Klara Zakopalova, who held three match points, and Lourdes Dominguez Lino, Medina Garrigues had no such problems in the final.
Just one game went against the Spaniard, who could now move up into 16th in the next world rankings after her success.
Medina Garrigues moved on to 9-5 in tournament finals, and added the Fes title to her four Palermo crowns, three Strasbourg titles and one victory in Canberra.
