Spaniard sets sights on team glory after sixth Grand Slam win
World number one Rafael Nadal has identified winning the Davis Cup as his next major objective following his triumph at the Australian Open.
The Spaniard clinched his sixth Grand Slam in dramatic style as he overcame Roger Federer in five sets to prevail in Sunday's final in Melbourne.
With another title in the bag, the 22-year-old switched his sights to team glory, insisting he wanted to experience Davis Cup success.
A knee injury prevented Nadal featuring for Spain as they clinched a third Davis Cup victory in eight years after beating Argentina 3-1 in November.
Nadal, who was a member of Spain's 2004 winning team, is yet to commit to playing in Spain's first-round match against Serbia in early March, but is aiming to help his country defend their crown.
"My objective is the Davis Cup, which I wasn't able to play last year," he told reporters on Monday. "To win it is my dream this year.
"It's a dream more than an objective. There is no margin for slowing down now."
Following his win in Australia, Nadal can become only the sixth man to complete a calendar year Grand Slam by collecting all four majors.
To do so he would need to defend his titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and then win the US Open, and admits winning at Flushing Meadows could prove the hardest task of all.
"The U.S. Open is a tournament that has always taken a little bit more out of me," he added.
"Last year it was a shame that I arrived tired, but my objective is to continue improving because it's the only way to complete, or at least try for, the Grand Slam."
