American 15-year-old joins elite club of young victors

American Ryan Harrison fired himself into the record books after he brushed aside Pablo Cuevas 6-4 6-3 at the ATP US Clay Court Championship. Harrison becomes only the 10th player in the Open era to win an ATP match at the age of 15. Harrison follows Richard Gasquet and world No.2 Rafael Nadal as the youngest player to secure a victory on the tour since 1990. The teenager, though, may have to wait a bit longer for his second win with top-seeded James Blake awaiting him in the second round in Houston. Another rising American talent Donald Young also opened up his championship bid with a win, overcoming Spanish qualifier Fernando Vicente 6-3 7-6 (7/5). Wildcard Hugo Armando needed three sets before overcoming Carlos Berlocq 6-3 4-6 7-5, while Wayne Odesnik toppled Amer Delic 6-3 6-3. Two seeds came through their opening round unscathed, with Dudi Sela beating Robby Ginepri 7-6 (7/5) 6-2 and Oscar Hernandez seeing off Juan Pablo Brzezicki 3-6 6-3 6-2.
