Roger Federer talked about the strength of serve and volleying and joked about missing Jack Sock's 'big butt' in an earlier rally

Roger Federer was in relaxed mood following his opening-day win over Jack Sock at the ATP Finals and joked about how he missed his opponent's 'big butt' during a rally in the first set.

The world No 2, chasing a seventh year-end title, produced an assured performance to defeat his in-form American opponent 6-4 7-6 (4) despite the glaring miss.

Federer hit a mid-court ball into the net despite Sock being rooted to the spot at the net with his back to play but the Swiss great insisted that the opportunity was harder than it looked on the pictures.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion also spoke about his use of the serve and volley tactic in matches and the improvements he has made on the backhand wing during the campaign.
