Roger Federer cruised into the second round of the French Open with a 6-3 6-3 6-4 victory over Colombian Alejandro Falla.
Federer is hoping to add a second Roland Garros title to his glittering record and he never had to leave first gear on Philippe Chatrier, wrapping up a comfortable win in less than two hours.
"I love coming here," the second-seeded Federer said. "I wasn't broken. I'm happy."
For once, the attention has been away from the Swiss in the build-up to the tournament, with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal's potential last eight match-up dominating the headlines, but Federer's kind draw means he has a strong chance of reaching his first Paris final since 2011.
If he does there will be tougher tests than this, as Falla never looked like pushing the 17-time champion as he once did at Wimbledon in 2010, when Federer had to come from two sets down to win in five.
The Colombian tried to disrupt his opponent's rhythm with drop shots and regular approaches to the net but Federer's touch play was too strong.
His most uncomfortable moment arguably came when a spectator ran on court to grab a quick photograph, but even that could not break his composure as four breaks of serve sealed a routine victory.
The number two seed will now face either Germany's Matthias Bachinger or Spain's Marcel Granollers in round two.
