Daniela Hantuchova suffered a shock defeat to Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round of the Prudential Hong Kong Open.
Slovakia's second seed Hantuchova, who reached the quarter-finals at the US Open last year, won the first set against the 20-year-old Belgian before losing the second and third as Van Uytvanck came back to claim a 3-6 6-2 6-4 victory in a match lasting two hours and 19 minutes.
World No 86 Van Uytvanck now faces Jarmila Gajdosova from Australia in the last eight.
Third seed Karolina Pliskova claimed a straight-sets victory over Monica Puig to reach the third round.
The 22-year-old Czech recorded a 6-3 6-4 win over Puerto Rico's Puig in an hour and 15 minutes to set up a quarter-final clash with fifth seed Jie Zheng.
World No 58 Zheng of China saw off her compatriot, qualifier Kai-Lin Zhang, 6-1 6-4 in the second match on Centre Court.
Also on Thursday, Slovakia's Jana Cepelova, who is seeded seventh, claimed a comfortable 6-1 6-3 victory over China's Lin Zhu.
The 21-year-old set up a quarter-final clash against 2010 French Open winner Francesca Schiavone of Italy.
