Scot through to his fifth major final

Ivan Lendl believes the time is right for Andy Murray to end his wait for a Grand Slam title by winning the US Open final on Monday. The Scot, a four-time runner-up in Grand Slams, booked his spot in the title decider at Flushing Meadows with a four-set victory over Tomas Berdych. Murray beat the No 6 seed from the Czech Republic 5-7 6-2 6-1 7-6 (9/7) in windy conditions in New York where the second semi-final between Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer was suspended after seven games of the first set - due to a hurricane warning. Murray's hopes will certainly not be hindered by the extra day's rest he will receive over his opponent due to the final being played on a Monday for the fifth straight year. And the 25-year-old Briton's coach is confident that Murray has learned from previous losses. Lendl, a winner of eight Grand Slams between 1984 and 1990, told the Daily Mirror: "Andy is ready to go and win. "The lesson he learned from the Wimbledon final was a tough one but he learned it well and put it to good use in the Olympic final. "After his Wimbledon defeat (to Roger Federer) I said to him, 'You should be proud of yourself for the way you handled the pressure and the way you played'. "There was a big difference between this loss and the one he had to Djokovic in Australia the previous year. "You learn from certain losses and become depressed from other ones. But when you put it all out there and go hard, you can be proud of yourself. "And you can learn from it, and that is really important. Andy is now in his prime." Lendl, who also lost his first four Slam finals before going on to win eight in all, started working with Murray in January this year.
