Christina McHale is through to the last-eight of the WTA Mercury Insurance Open after surviving a scare against Misaki Doi. The American fifth seed lost the first set before battling back to secure a quarter-final clash with top seed Marion Bartoli. The 20-year-old, who will represent the United States at the Olympics, was given a stern test by her Japanese opponent but she eventually prevailed 4-6 6-4 6-4 in Carlsbad. Jelena Jankovic was also given a scare but responded well to defeat Hungary's Melinda Czink. The third-seeded Serbian will play Chan Yung-Jan - a second-round winner against Briton's Heather Watson - in the last eight. Second seed Dominika Cibulkova will face Urszula Radwanska in another of the quarter-finals after both players enjoyed straight-sets victories in their second-round matches. Cibulkova saw off Marina Erakovic 6-2 6-4, while Radwanska cruised past Melanie Oudin 6-2 6-1.
