Former champion too hot for Mahut

Top seed and former champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Marseille Open with a 55-minute 6-3 6-2 victory over fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. Tsonga, who won the title in 2009, was in full control against the world number 84 as he denied Mahut a single break point opportunity and took advantage of all three he fashioned on the Mahut serve. Tsonga will face another Frenchman, Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the last eight after the world number 87 pulled off an emphatic 6-3 6-0 victory over Italy's Flavio Cipolla. Also in second round action, third seed Janko Tipsarevic ended the hopes of Belgian qualifier David Goffin with a 6-4 6-2 win, and seventh seed Ivan Ljubicic dispatched Karol Beck 6-4 7-6 (7-1). In round one, sixth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov shrugged off a nightmare start to beat Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic 2-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-3, and Michael Llodra defeated Swiss qualifier Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-3).
