Londoner battles into last four in Luxembourg

Britain's Anne Keothavong continued her superb run of form to reach the semi-finals of the Luxembourg Open with a 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 6-4 victory over Iveta Benesova. The British number two did her chances of reaching the top 100 in the world no harm with a battling victory on Friday afternoon. Keothavong, whose world ranking of 143rd is well adrift of her best of 48 set last February, will now face Italy's Roberta Vinci for a place in Sunday's final after she beat Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 (7-5) 6-1. The 27-year-old, who has never reached a WTA Tour final, followed up her quarter-final victory over world number 43 Patty Schnyder with a gritty win over Czech Benesova, ranked 66th. Keothavong converted only two of 12 break-point chances in the first set, which she eventually lost on a tie-break, but kept plugging away and finally wrapped up victory after two hours and 41 minutes.
