Nick Kyrgios was involved in a confrontation with a ball boy at the Miami Open on Monday - before laughing off the crowd's booing by claiming it was "a joke".
The Australian player, during a third round win over Ivo Karlovic, complained about the accuracy of a ball boy's throw but immediately felt the wrath of the crowd.
Kyrgios made amends with the young man after sealing victory, before telling Sky Sports about the "dark place" he entered after the disappointment of exiting the Australian Open in January.
"I was in a really dark place after the Australian Open and didn't know if I'd play tennis for at least a couple of months," he said. "I was going to take a break to really decide what I wanted to do.
"I'm just thankful that [Australia Davis Cup coach Lleyton Hewitt], my family and some of my team had my back, and helped me through. I wasn't in a great place at all."
The Miami Open is live on Sky Sports from 4pm on Tuesday.
