British No 3 Naomi Broady is through to the second round at the Citi Open in Washington after a 6-3 6-4 victory over home hope Irina Falconi.
It was a first win for Broady in a WTA Tour main draw match since the Katowice Open back in April.
The Stockport-born 26-year-old, the world No 84, exchanged breaks with Falconi early on but then managed to break again at 4-3 before serving out the set.
Just one break then proved sufficient in the second set, Broady striking in game three and going on to wrap up victory in just under an hour and a half.
The Brit sent down 13 aces against seven double-faults and only dropped seven points on her first serve all match.
Second seed Sloane Stephens or Risa Ozaki of Japan will be Broady's second round opponent.
