Victorija Golubic secured the first WTA title of her career as she fought back from a set down to beat Kiki Bertens in the final at Gstaad.

The 23-year-old from Switzerland needed just over two hours to beat No 3 seed Bertens 4-6 6-3 6-4.

After losing a tight first set, Golubic broke her opponent's serve four times to take the second, and twice more in the decider.

And the world No 105 was delighted to claim a maiden triumph in her own country, denying her Dutch opponent a second title of 2016.

She said: "It's fantastic to win at home. Kiki is always so tough to play. I was impressed with her play in Paris."

Bertens was plagued by six double-faults in an event which lost three days to rain but ended with bright sunshine over the Alps.

Bertens, a semi-finalist at Roland Garros, was unable to save any of the seven break points she faced but praised Golubic.

The world No 26 said: "We had a lot of trouble with the weather and scheduling but she came through for the win.

"Victorija played a great match today when it counted."

This was the first WTA Tour event staged in Switzerland since the Zurich Indoors in 2008.
