Denis Istomin claimed his first ATP Tour title on Saturday with a 7-6 7-6 victory over Sam Querrey in the final of the Nottingham Open.
The world No 92 from Uzbekistan needed a tie-break in both sets to overcome his American opponent, who recovered from 5-2 down in the second set and then led 4-1 in the tie-break - only to lose it 8-6.
Big-serving Istomin kept his cool though to mark his card in the pre-Wimbledon event, dropping to his knees with a scream as his title was confirmed.
"He's a tough player," said 12th-seed Querrey. "He's got a great serve. He hung in there today when it got tough."
Querrey was looking to end a three-year wait for a title, having last won in Los Angeles in 2012.
