Ulster blitzed in Biarritz

Biarritz made it two wins from two in this season's Heineken Cup with a convincing 35-15 victory over Ulster at Parc des Sports Aguilera.

Last season's beaten finalists scored four tries in the second half to claim a welcome bonus point against their Pool Four rivals on Sunday.

The two sides had been level at three apiece at the break before Biarritz simply blitzed their rivals, winger Takudzwa Ngwenya bagging a brace.

Ulster did manage to cross twice themselves, through Andrew Trimble and Stephen Ferris, but are still left searching for their first win on French soil.

High hopes

The big-spending Irish province had travelled to the south-west with high hopes of breaking their duck after an unbeaten start in the Magners League.

They managed to start brightly and having missed his first attempt at the posts, went ahead with a Ruan Pienaar penalty in the 13th minute.

Despite losing Simon Danielli to injury, Ulster wasted a glorious chance to score on the half hour when fly-half Pienaar's long pass was intercepted by Iain Balshaw.

Biarritz made their opponents pay when Dimitri Yachvili levelled the scores with a 37th-minute penalty, though they were indebted to a superb try-saving tackle from Dane Haylett-Petty to deny number eight Robbie Diack.

However all Ulster's good work during the first 40 minutes was ruined when they fell to pieces in the second half.

Opening try

Yachvili was again in the thick of the action when he combined with Magnus Lund to send Ngwenya over for his opening try in the left corner just four minutes after the re-start.

Yachvili converted and then booted two penalties as Biarritz surged 16-3 ahead. It was then the turn of their pack to pile on the agony, as replacement Manuel Carizza forced his way over.

Although Ulster replied through Trimble to remain in touch, Sylvain Marconnet -another substitute - gave Biarritz some breathing range with a rare try.

Ngwenya made sure of the bonus point when he grabbed the home side's fourth with three minutes remaining, meaning Ferris' late score from a quick-tap was nothing more than a consolation.
