Edinburgh made it two wins out of two in Challenge Cup Pool 5 with a 27-6 victory in Agen.
Last season's runners-up leapfrogged London Irish at the top of the table thanks to tries from Cornell Du Preez and John Hardie along with the boot of Greig Tonks.
The deadlock was not broken until the 22nd minute when Tonks converted a penalty after Agen were penalised at a scrum.
Tonks made it two penalties in two minutes after the hosts were caught infringing at a ruck.
Agen also collapsed a number of Edinburgh scrums and referee Peter Fitzgibbon's patience finally ran out after half an hour when he awarded a penalty try.
Tonks converted it to give the Scottish side a 13-0 lead at half-time.
They were 20 ahead moments after the restart when Hardie fed Du Preez to burst through and score, with Tonks adding the conversion.
Clement Darbo landed a couple of penalties as Agen briefly threatened to make a game of it.
But Hardie dived over at the back of a driving maul and Tonks added the extras to take his personal tally to 12 points.
In Pool 3 Montpellier got off the mark with a thumping bonus-point win over Calvisano.
Former Australia captain Ben Mowen was among the nine try scorers as the Italians were swept aside 64-0.
