Tom Lineham grabbed a hat-trick as Hull FC leapfrogged Widnes in the Super League table with a 25-12 victory at the Select Security Stadium.
The Airlie Birds winger touched down twice in the first half to give his side a slender 14-12 lead, and he bagged his third on the hour mark to put them on course for a victory that lifts them into seventh place.
Hull had to weather an early Vikings' storm as the hosts raced into a 12-0 lead through tries from youngsters Jack Owens and Matty Whitley, but they failed to build on that superb start.
The first try arrived on eight minutes as wing Jack Owens touched down in the corner after Joe Mellor put him through, and then landed the touchline conversion.
The Vikings didn’t have to wait long for a second try. Rhys Hanbury bamboozled Hull veteran Richard Whiting and Matty Whitley crossed in the other corner.
Hull coach Lee Radford threw on Chris Green to shore things up down the middle and they hit back on 16 minutes, Lineham crashing over after a brilliant break from skipper Gareth Ellis.
Widnes pair Macgraff Leuluai and Stefan Marsh were both hauled down just short of the tryline, but it was the visitors who crossed again with nine first-half minutes remaining when Leon Pryce powered his way over from dummy half.
Marc Sneyd couldn't land the conversion but he combined with Pryce on the stroke of half-time to lay on a second try for Lineham.
The duo swapped passes and Sneyd put in a delightful chip that had Vikings winger Patrick Ah Van scrambling for position, and his opposite number Lineham gobbled it up and dived over.
Sneyd sneaked over the conversation to edge Hull ahead at the break and then chipped in with a superb solo try on 52 minutes after collecting his own kick.
Hull cranked things up again seven minutes later and Lineham broke away on the right edge to race in for an easy score.
The conversion was missed by Sneyd but he made amends with a drop goal to clinch an impressive victory.
