Rovers gained a modicum of revenge for their Tetley's Challenge Cup exit at the hands of the same opponents the previous Sunday with a 25-12 triumph at the home of the Wolves.
Burns provided 13 points, including a try and four conversions. He also landed a second-half drop goal that helped put the game beyond the home team.
"Travis was outstanding but it was a really good performance by all the boys," Sandercock said.
"To come away with two points against a quality team like Warrington is very pleasing. It's another step in the right direction and it was an improvement on last week."
Sandercock revealed he had no substitutes left at the end to step into action with Adam Walker (neck), Jason Netherton (neck), Kris Keating (calf) and Liam Salter (dead leg) suffering injuries.
Injury problems
Warrington also had injury problems themselves, with Paul Wood suffering a torn bicep and Simon Grix a dislocated shoulder.
"Both players face operations and it's devastating after they have worked so hard," Wolves coach Tony Smith admitted.
The Wolves were already were missing joint captain Ben Westwood with a calf injury, as well as Roy Asotasi, Mickey Higham and Ben Evans.
As for the game itself, Smith felt his team paid the price for not taking their opportunities in a first half that saw them fail to muster a point.
"We lost a bit of punch from our attack from last week but weren't far off" he said. "It was a good even contest in the first half but we needed to take our chances.
"In the second half we didn't build a game or show patience. I couldn't fault our effort but we needed to be a bit more smart,
"Rovers looked sharp at times but we were off the pace in the first 15 minutes after half-time.
"There was a marked improvement in some areas though and our defence was better."
