Aussie centre stays suspended by club as court case continues

Melbourne Storm have said that centre Greg Inglis will remain suspended indefinitely after his court case was adjourned for two weeks. Australia centre Inglis has been charged with allegedly assaulting girlfriend Sally Robinson, as he appeared at Sunshine Magistrates Court on Wednesday. The 22-year-old was not required to enter a plea, and instead the court agreed to a request from the player's lawyer to adjourn the case, with the matter to resume on August 26. Inglis was accompanied to the court by Melbourne chief executive Brian Waldron, football manager Frank Ponissi and other club officials. The team's board met after the hearing and agreed that Inglis would remain suspended, with him missing Monday's game against Newcastle and probably more. "The NRL's decision is that they'll let us determine what we believe is an appropriate process and they're very supportive of us just taking a little bit of time," Waldron said. "The media, and I say this with great respect, want to see an immediate outcome. Unfortunately it's the type of process that does take 24-48 hours to catch our breath and work through all the scenarios. "Hopefully sometime soon, we'll be in a position to make a more definitive statement but at this stage he's stood down from all involvement. "We reiterate our concern for the wellbeing of all involved and the club remain committed to providing counselling to all parties concerned."
