Darrell Goulding will make his England debut in the Four Nations opener against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday. The Wigan winger has been named in the team after Leeds' Ryan Hall failed to recover from a hamstring injury sustained during training. England coach Steve McNamara has also named Sam Tomkins in his starting line-up at scrum-half, alongside Huddersfield's Kevin Brown. The Wigan half-back has overcome a hip injury that cut short his playing time during the 18-18 draw with the New Zealand Maori last weekend. No reaction
"He's good," said McNamara on Tomkins. "He came through practice yesterday and there is no reaction. "He's looking forward to the game. He's a highly competitive person as we all know and he was adamant he wouldn't miss this one." Having been rested for the Maori match, new captain James Graham and fellow front-rower Stuart Fielden return to bolster a pack that also includes Australian-based second-rowers Gareth Ellis and Sam Burgess. McNamara has also named Huddersfield duo Luke Robinson and Darrell Griffin, Warrington forward Ben Westwood and Wigan's Joel Tomkins, Sam's brother, on the bench. England are without Adrian Morley after he returned home to have surgery on a ruptured bicep. James Graham has been named as captain in his place.Rallying cry
"JP (Jamie Peacock, who is also sidelined) and Moz (Morley) are going to be a loss to any side but that's gone now, there's nothing we can do about it," Graham said. "The other boys have got to step up. We've got some experience there anyway. I think you saw a perfect example with Benny Westwood at the weekend when we lost Moz. "He's a back-rower but he stepped up to prop and the way he carried the ball was tremendous. He was outstanding. "When you lose certain players who are held in high regard, some players step up that extra five and 10 per cent and they reap the rewards of that."
