Widnes have suffered a blow to their hopes of retaining their Super League status after experienced back-rower Hep Cahill was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The New Zealander, who joined the Vikings from Crusaders in 2012, suffered an Achilles injury in Widnes' last Super League fixture against Wakefield at the end of last month.
"After visiting a specialist late last week, it was confirmed that the 31-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign," the club said in a statement.
"Hep has already started his rehabilitation and the club look forward to seeing him back on the field for 2019."
The 19-6 home defeat by Trinity left Widnes bottom of the table, five points adrift of eighth-placed Huddersfield.
