Ian Millward said Castleford's defensive performance in Sunday's 70-12 demolition by Hull KR was one of the worst he had seen.
The Tigers coach however refused to blame the rout on personnel problems in his injury ravaged side, which arrived on Humberside missing three first-choice half-backs through injury and suspension.
"I'm very disappointed with our performance," he said. "We were not up to Super League standard.
"I take my hat off to Hull KR, but we were poor. It was one of the worst defensive performances I have seen for a long time."
"It wasn't down to us having our halves out. Everyone was quite soft. We didn't stick to our structure and I feel sorry for our fans.

"But the fans are very intelligent and they don't need me to sugar coat it. They're very loyal, but we need to turn things around."
Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock saw his men run in 12 tries as warm-up for next weekend's derby with Hull.
"They were without their halves but we executed well and it was good to put some points on the board," he said.
"Our defence was very much improved and I was impressed with our discipline. If we show that sort of discipline, it will stand us in good stead in the future.
"We will back ourselves set for set with any side if we don't give away silly penalties."
